Is Hilo Wave a safe treatment? Are there any risks of side effects?Hilo Wave is a safe Class IV medical device approved for injection into the skin. Because it contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, it is naturally absorbed by the skin, with very low concerns regarding nodules and other adverse reactions.
Is the procedure painful? What type of anesthesia is used?Hilo Wave is considered a relatively low-pain treatment. In most cases, topical numbing cream is sufficient to ensure a comfortable procedure. For patients with sensitive skin or depending on the treatment area, mild local anesthesia may also be used to carefully minimize discomfort.
What treatment volume and frequency are recommended?For a full-face treatment, approximately 4–6 cc is generally recommended, with the amount customized according to the degree of elasticity loss and volume depletion in each area. Repeating the treatment three times at intervals of 3–6 months can help extend the results and their duration.
Can Hilo Wave be combined with lifting treatments such as Ultherapy or Thermage?Yes. Combining Hilo Wave with radiofrequency or ultrasound-based energy-based devices (EBDs) can further maximize the synergistic effects on skin elasticity. When performed on the same day, it is recommended to undergo the energy-based lifting treatment first, followed by Hilo Wave.
Post-Treatment Care
Keep the DuoDERM or recovery tape applied by the clinic in place on the day of treatment.
Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, and strenuous exercise for one week to prevent excessive heat from developing in the skin.
For one week, avoid scrubs and exfoliating products, and refrain from vigorously rubbing the face, such as during facial massage.
To support collagen regeneration and help prevent inflammation, strictly avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 1–2 weeks.
Mild swelling, throbbing, or tenderness when touched may occur in the treated area for several days after cannula treatment, but these symptoms generally subside within a few days.
