How is Sculptra different from traditional dermal fillers?Traditional fillers provide immediate volume by injecting substances such as hyaluronic acid, whereas Sculptra contains PLLA, which stimulates the skin’s natural collagen production. The key difference is that Sculptra creates a natural-looking volume effect that gradually develops over time, as if your own tissue is naturally filling out.
When do the results appear, and how long do they last?Immediately after treatment, the treated area may appear more volumized due to hydration, but this effect is absorbed within a few days and the treated area temporarily returns to its original appearance. From around 4–6 weeks after treatment, new collagen begins to form, gradually restoring volume and firmness. Results vary from person to person, but they typically last for 2 years or longer.
How many treatments are recommended, and how far apart should they be?To allow sufficient collagen regeneration and achieve satisfying volume restoration, three treatments are generally recommended at 4–6 week intervals. However, the number of treatments may be adjusted following a physician’s assessment based on the individual degree of volume loss and skin thickness.
Are there any side effects such as lumps or nodules after treatment?To prevent the formation of nodules, it is essential to completely and evenly hydrate (dissolve) the PLLA solution before treatment and to have it injected evenly into the precise target layer by an experienced medical professional. Following the 5-5-5 massage protocol provided after treatment — 5 times a day, 5 minutes each time, for 5 days — can also help prevent lump formation.
Post-Treatment Precautions
For infection prevention around the injection sites, it is recommended to wait at least 2–3 hours after treatment before gently washing your face or applying makeup.
Mild bruising, swelling, or slight discomfort may occur after treatment, but these symptoms generally resolve naturally within a few days. If significant swelling occurs, gentle cold compresses on the first day may be helpful.
To ensure stable settling of the injected product and help prevent inflammation, avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, and strenuous exercise that causes excessive sweating for one week after treatment.
To avoid interfering with the skin’s regenerative process, it is recommended to avoid alcohol and smoking for at least one week after treatment.
To help prevent pigmentation in the treated areas, apply sunscreen thoroughly when going outdoors and keep the skin well moisturized by applying sufficient moisturizing cream.
